How to be a Switchboard Operator

Switchboard Operators are nodes in the Lifeboat Network. They connect Lifeboat Builders who have a question about to a resource or person who has an answer.

We define "lifeboat builders" as anyone who is working to grow their personal and local community resilience in the face of climate and other disruptions. Lifeboat builders are just normal folks trying to figure out how to respond to quickly changing conditions.

As a switchboard operator, you let anyone in your personal network know that if they have any questions related to resilience - whether it's how to start a garden or how to facilitate a group discussion - they can just ask you.

This Help Desk, where we gather answers to FAQs, is a primary resource for you, as well as the knowledge and networks you already have available. Some questions you get might be answered through our Help Desk; others may simply require an email connecting the questioner to someone you know.

Use the search bar at the top to find an article related to your question. If you can't find an answer, you can simply click on "New Support Ticket" to submit your question to us.

If we receive a question that we can't answer, we'll send a message out to our broader network to see who might have an answer.

Questions submitted to the Help Desk will become articles that other people can access, so we welcome all inquiries!

If you haven't already let us know that you're interested in being a switchboard operator, send us an email: friends@lifeboat.academy.
